The European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) is currently seeking interns who will assist with the research, translations and proofreading of documents for the ECMI Eastern Partnership Programme (EPP). In collaboration with ECMI senior researchers, interns will explore the current trends in the development of the new ECMI project aimed to enhance governance and to advance state policies on the prevention of ethnic discrimination and on the mainstreaming of national minorities issues according to European best practices in the target countries.
Interns participate in all the activities of the Centre, and an excursion to visit the minority institutions in the region is offered once during each internship period.
Interns will also have the opportunity to work on their own research in agreement with assigned supervisor and under his or her guidance. A work plan setting out goals and objectives, as well as specific tasks is usually drafted at the beginning of the internship.
Intern positions are normally full-time, but a part-time position is also possible in agreement with assigned supervisor.

About the project
ECMI EASTERN PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME (EPP) addresses Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine – countries that face various challenges and also have numerous achievements in the accommodation and governance of their ethnic and linguistic diversity. This is a 3-year programme, to be implemented from 2014 to 2017.
The EPP’s objectives are:
- awareness-raising and capacity-building of public bodies in charge of diversity and equality management, consultative bodies and advisory bodies on minority issues
- dissemination and transfer of information and know-how both on European standards and good practices through training and networking.
The programme objectives are achieved by means of trans-regional thematically-focused training seminars, by facilitating networking of public and civil society institutions and by joint activities aimed at monitoring and drafting thematic reports on the EPP’s focal issues.
The EPP’s work is organized along two thematic streams:
- National institutions in pursuit of equality and diversity policies
- Minority participation to public life
