A Seminar on Interethnic Relations held at the Mahiliou State University of Food Technologies

October 23, 2014

The Mahiliou State University of Food Technologies hosted a seminar featuring the Eastern Partnership Project “Minorities and Ethnopolitical Issues: Belarus – Ukraine – Moldova”.

The purpose of the project, developed by the European Centre for Minority Issues in Germany, is increasing effective governance and promoting state policies aimed at ensuring social equality, and cooperation of state authorities with national minorities.

The seminar was attended by representatives of Mahiliou ethnic communities, government agencies, and NGOs. Of particular note in the discussions was the fact that the status of national minorities in Belarus can be characterized as stable. This is a consequence of the state’s official policies, citizens’ mentality, and strong, long-standing ties between ethnic groups. As a state that is home to 135 different nationalities, Belarus is ready to share this good practice of inter-ethnic communication with other countries.
