Last call to submit an application for participation in the ECMI EPP seminars “National minorities and ethno-political issues: Belarus – Moldova – Ukraine”

Dear Applicants,

We would like to remind you that the registration for the seminars in the framework of the Eastern Partnership Programme “National minorities and ethno-political issues: Belarus – Moldova – Ukraine” will close on 16 September 2016. The European Centre for Minority Issues also continues its call for applications to the seminar “The Combination of Different Approaches to Equality Provisions and Anti-Discrimination”. Interested participants need to fill out the application form according to the location of the seminar not later than 16 September 2016. Application forms are available through the following links:

Two-day seminar on 26-27 September in Kyiv:

Successful candidates will be provided with further information after the deadline for application submission, but not later 21 September 2016.

The seminar will cover topics regarding the support of minority groups, including the issues of equality, anti-discrimination activities and participation in political and social life.

The following lectures will be delivered during the seminar in Kyiv:

–          How to use legal mechanisms other than anti-discrimination laws; for example, laws on languages or minority laws;

–          How to effectively combine legal instruments to tackle discrimination and human rights protection with alternative mechanisms and instruments (complaints to administrative bodies by civic companies);

–          How to properly prioritize and find a balance between the fight against xenophobia and everyday discrimination, not linked to the ethnic animosity;

–          How to collect and effectively use data on discrimination expression and ethnic animosity;

–          Events in Loshchynivka village.

Government representatives and members of other official bodies who deal with ethnic politics and human rights, along with representatives of ethno-cultural and human rights civil society organizations, including academic experts and journalists, are welcome to participate in the seminars.

We would like to inform you that during the seminar in Kyiv simultaneous translation from and into English, Ukrainian and Russian languages will be available. The Seminar in Mykolaiv will be conducted only in Russian, and translation from Russian into Ukrainian will be available during the seminar in Vinnytsia. Priority during the selection of participants will be given to representatives of organizations working with ethno-national communities of Ukraine and/or deal with ensuring equality and anti-discrimination. Participation in the seminars is free of charge. Participants will be provided with a meal and distribution materials. Participants coming from other cities will be reimbursed for their travel costs (within the limits of the train ticket costs (reserved seat/compartment) or the bus ticket from the residence place to Kyiv).
