Following successful workshops in Belarus, the Eastern Partnership Program of the European Centre for Minority Issues is once again coming to Moldova.
From the 18th to the 22nd of April a series of seminars on the topic “Local self-government and the inclusion of minorities in the local community” will be launched in Chisinau, Balti and Comrat.
During the implementation of the program it is planned to discuss the principles and priorities that should be taken into consideration in the sphere of national relations between public authorities, local governments and national associations in the development of local self government policies. This includes the legal and institutional protection of the rights mechanisms of national minorities in contemporary international law, which are usually based on securing a non-discriminatory approach.
The introduction of the subject of this Program will begin with a two-day seminar in Chisinau, arranged in partnership with the Bureau of Interethnic Relations of the Republic of Moldova.
On April 18th, a lecturer from Madrid, Dr Eugenia Relaño Pastor, the Legal Advisor to the Spanish Ombudsman and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the Complutense University of Madrid, will address the issues of integration policy at the local level in regards to the case of the Roma.
On April 19th, the Secretary General of ALDA (European Association for Local Democracy), Ms. Antonella Valmorbida from Belgium will discuss issues relating to interaction between minorities and local self-government.

On April 20th, the next seminar will take place in Comrat, in which Antonella Valmorbida will introduce minority issues at the level of local authorities.

On April 22nd in Balti, the Program will be concluded by a lecturer from Tbilisi; the Coordinator of the Council for National Minorities of the Office of the Public Defender of Georgia, Mr. Koba Chopliani. The lecture will present minority issues, which are addressed at the community level.
