The concluding seminar on “Ethno-cultural Policy and Models of Cooperation with Authorities” was held in Balti.
On the 26th of October in Balti – in the Northern part of the Republic of Moldova – was held a concluding seminar from a seminar series titled “Ethno-Cultural Policy and Models of Cooperation with Authorities” organized in Moldova.
Dr. Alexander Osipov, Academic Director of the Eastern Partnership Programme and Senior Research Associate at the ECMI, gave a lecture on how minorities cooperate with authorities in Europe.
During the discussion that followed the lecture, participants discussed questions of inter-ethnic understanding, ethnic discrimination, and issues of cooperation between representatives of ethnic non-governmental organizations and governmental authorities. Separate attention was also given to the question of the discrimination against Roma people by the local authorities. Participants in the discussion recognized the need to raise awareness about ethno-national minorities, their culture and national traditions, as a means against nationality-based discrimination.
The seminar was attended by the consul of Ukraine in the city of Balti Svyatoslav Drach, and by representatives of national NGOs and educational institutions.
